UEL Post Room

Post Room Redesign and Fit Out

The university of East London approached CUBIC with a requirement to completely redesign their busy post room, including new storage racking, cupboards and bespoke post boxes.  The new design was to be carefully based on the requirements of the post room operators, their spacial requirements and the work flow characteristics of their departmental clients. Prior to CUBIC's involvement, the flow of mail through the post room was less structured and this caused many problems with duplication of effort and overlapping work spaces.

A key project milestone was to achieve a more structured flow to the incoming and outgoing mail, and to segregate the sorting and picking operations into two predefined areas.  The scope of works included full 'turn key' project delivery, encompassing evaluation, design and installation of the new post room equipment and all associated building works.

Overview:

  • Evaluation of layout proposals with the client and post room operators to obtain the best work flow and space management.
  • Design and evaluation of post box design with comparison of bespoke solution against proprietary designs.
  • CUBIC designed a unique stand alone Post Box / mail sorting system mounted via an aperture created in a dividing wall.
  • Post box design incorporated an open back to allow for the post room operators to sort incoming mail direct to the required post box.
  • Customised mail delivery chutes, straight to mail sacks.
  • Client side departmental post boxes each with individual locking.
  • Each client side door incorporates a post slot allowing for interdepartmental mail to be posted directly without the need to go through the main post room.
  • Layout allowed for the total number of post boxes to be increased by over 50%.
  • Improved space allocation and better work flow has improved operator efficiency.

"The results of the post room refit that you carried out have been terrific - Thanks again!  It was great to work with a company who really listened to our problems!"
